Scope of Position
Responsible for leading and managing the Measurements and Controls (M&C) Division Engineering team to deliver continuous improvement for safety, cost, capability, and systems through the application of innovative technologies and rigorous engineering principles. Initiate and drive improvement projects for existing and new processes in order to achieve desired manufacturing performance relative to quality and cost. Provide direction, prioritization, and mentorship to employees in the engineering team.
Day to Day Responsibilities
Support optical fiber and cable manufacturing in alignment with OFC division engineering objectives and the defined M&C strategy.
Supervise engineers in NA who will support and/or lead specialized measurement and control applications and projects.
Coach and mentor engineering personnel as appropriate to build and leverage skill sets to enhance the effectiveness of this engineering team.
Identify, recruit, and hire the key talent and expertise required to meet M&C strategic goals.
Conduct periodic Performance Development and Reviews with subordinates.
Establish development plans for direct reports and track progress. Create improvement plans for low performers and recognize/reward top performers.
Assign objectives and projects to direct reports. Provide guidance on project priority, scope, and key business linkages to ensure the individual understands how to handle schedule and resource conflicts.
Track engineering objectives that directly link to divisional and business objectives.
Maintain and execute the measurement and controls strategy in this division.
Govern HMI SCADA and control system standards.
Govern critical process and product measurements.
Knowledgeable of application and use of 1st principal measurements for flow, temp, pressure, etc.
Champion MSA, calibration and certification methodologies.
Lead and champion control system safety for the group.
Collaborate with and support Research & Development on new product introductions, process enhancements, raw material changes, and equipment design modifications.
Develop and maintain linkages to M&C communities in the plant engineering groups, S&T, and MT&E
Ensure all engineering related activities are conducted in accordance with established design and process control procedures.
Lead, track and handle capital spending projects as appropriate.
Identify obsolescence plans for critical M&C equipment used across the division.
Ensure all work is performed in a safe manner and environment. Responsible for his/her safety, as well as that of others that may be at the facility, whether working or visiting. Responsible for observing safe work practices and being proactive in reporting any unsafe conditions.
Utilize Lean manufacturing principles to reduce manufacturing costs.
Apply DMAIC principles to achieve project objectives.
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Required.
Minimum of 5 years of measurements and/or controls engineering experience in a manufacturing environment.
3+ years of direct people management experience.
Required Skills
Knowledge of manufacturing methods, systems, production processes, measurements, and controls systems is required.
Understanding of PLC and programming capabilities.
Validated delivery of results through project and organizational leadership.
Demonstrated track record of performance results and people development.
Demonstrated track record of engineering/technical accomplishment.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal) required.
