Purpose of the Position:

Position is in the Corning Optical Fiber and Cable plant in Wilmington, NC.



Day to Day Responsibilities:

Ensure area is meeting metrics and ensure proper accountability to those metrics
Ensure staffing is proper to meet output targets
Complete monthly/quarterly shift updates
Safety metrics and response along with Clean room/ sub room SOPs, training docs, VWIs
Clean room operations and clean room quality standards
Ensure submarine ship to promise orders are met
Production planning for special orders and make to order process
Lead-time planning in conjunction with Commercial and Supply Chain
Commercial point of contact for Sub manufacturing
Project management within the department, including capital projects
Organize monthly spend reviews
MET projects and communication to engineering



Projects involved with:

Quality, Safety improvements, Lean manufacturing, Process/equipment improvement…



Education & Experience:

BS or MS in Industrial, Chemical, Mechanical, Electrical, or Ceramic/Materials Engineering with G.P.A. > 3.0
2 plus years engineering and/or manufacturing experience.



Required Skills:

Demonstrated ability to lead project and/or teams.
Solid background and understanding of complex manufacturing processes, equipment, and ware flow
Strong people skills and managing responsibilities/expectations
Ability to effectively manage union employees in a team environment
Demonstrated ability to operate within matrix organization. Utilizes influence versus control. Can manage in the “gray” areas.
Ability to communicate with all levels of the plant organization and to outside plant organization (Commercial, CFT, etc.)
Strong coaching / teambuilding skills
Strong computer skills (Kronos, FactoryWorks, Word, Excel, Access, etc.)



Desired Skills:

Proficient in several of these systems: Spliced Fiber Manager, FW, Span look up, KiwiParsar, SMOG utilities, DCC system, Quality Quarantine, Flaw Analysis
Strong engineering problem solving skills
Direct management or supervisory experience preferred.
