SCOPE:

Are you looking for a meaningful role where you will maintain department’s state of the art knowledge and capability in commercially available machine/motion control systems, system integration, part sensing, and robotics technologies?
You will also develop understanding of critical process and technical requirements, identify areas of technical risk in assigned projects, conduct prototype/feasibility testing to verify concept, and define and document system design specifications
Direct the design layouts of automation cells including safety circuits and electrical control systems.
Review drawing packages for conformance to industry and Corning standards
Design, and/or direct resources, to develop completely integrated machine tools/motion control systems, robot cells, and safety systems, including hardware implementation for the control and safety systems
Work with external system integrators and machine builders to successfully deliver fully integrated process equipment systems to Corning’s plants on-time, on-budget, and that satisfy performance measures
Actively participate/direct all phases of the project including design, fabrication, off-line integration and testing, installation, production start-up support, training of plant personnel, and technology transfer
Report on project activities on a pre-determined basis. Ensure results meet the customer’s requirements as well as applicable equipment design standards
You should be capable of working in a team based environment and able to participate on a highly matrixed team to execute project assignments, with minimal supervision

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

Would you like to see different locations? Estimated travel is 30% - 50% depending on specific project assignments. Travel may be required during installation, debug, and start-up and for routine interaction with customers and suppliers, including some international?

HOURS OF WORK/WORK SCHEDULE/FLEX-TIME:

Normal Business Hours (8 – 5, M – F), however, expected to work hours required to achieve project objectives

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

We require a BS or MS in Mechanical/Electrical/Mechatronics Engineering and 7+ years of engineering experience with proven success crafting, developing, and implementing, robust state of the art flexible automation, robotics systems, and electro-mechanical systems into manufacturing

REQUIRED SKILLS:

Strong fundamental understanding of mechanical/electrical design practices, machine / motion control systems, electro-mechanical systems, robotics (FANUC/ABB programming, and system integration
Experience designing, developing and delivering fully integrated machine, automation, and process machine systems to manufacturing
Familiar with state of the art technologies in the following areas: robotics, part sensing, vision, risk assessment, and safety systems
Able to effectively use external machine builders and system integrators for detail design, build, and integration of later stages of system implementation
Possesses an understanding of general mechanics and be able to apply it in troubleshooting and system design
Self-starter who is results- oriented, possesses a high dedication level, and is able to meet objectives and timelines while applying sound problem solving and decision-making processes and skills
Highly motivated, results oriented, customer focused, with a high dedication level

DESIRED SKILLS:

Allen Bradley machine and motion control experience (most current techniques desired); Control system (PLC, motion control, safety devices, high level languages) programming
Knowledge of glass and ceramic manufacturing
Manufacturing plant experience and/or prior experience moving a new product or process from development into manufacturing
Knowledgeable in applicable national and international electrical and robotic design and safety codes
2D and 3D software design tools (Autocad, Solidworks)
