Full Job Description:
Scope of Position: Provide drying process support and direction, for both existing operations and for future needs of the Diesel and Automotive businesses in the Environmental Technologies Division. The scientific method to drive to fundamental understanding. Improve process understanding, product quality, process capability, and reduce manufacturing costs to deliver step change improvements in processes or product attributes.
Day to Day Responsibilities: Provide technical support on drying projects for existing and future compositions and processes to support existing and expanding businesses. Support and provide process trouble shooting. Provide technical guidance to manufacturing, engineering and research organizations. Responsibilities would include drying process definition for new products & processes, scale-up/transfer to manufacturing, and/or step-change improvements to existing manufacturing processes. Specific skill sets, and activities will include leading and participating in:
• Driving technology advances from theory into production
• Providing process engineering skills for process improvements for existing manufacturing products and processes, process development for new products, and root cause understanding for production/product issues
• Developing tools and use scientific methods for fundamental understanding of processes to solve problems
• Providing input and support for new product process concepts
• Experimentation: identification of key variables, design of experiments, execution, analysis of process data, recommendations, and documentation. The use of rigorous tools to deliver results including problem analysis, potential problem analysis, risk assessment, DMAIC methodology and innovation
• Advancing the fundamental understanding of the drying process
• Implementing drying technology advancements and "standard methodologies".
• Being a key contact point for internal customers, vendors, consultants, etc.
• Working in a multi-functional environment: link between development, quality, commercial, and manufacturing to deliver the best possible solution • Translating work, solutions, and directions into clear documentation and when required, presentations to leadership that can be well understood and are actionable Projects Involved with:
• Process production improvements for existing automotive and diesel products
• Process development for new products
• Manufacturing expansion projects, both new factories and new production lines in existing factories
• Support internal and external department drying modeling efforts Roles within Group: • Technical project support on drying projects
• Develop into key technical resource for drying process
• Grow into division domain expert for drying systems and operation
• Technical liaison between Development, Engineering and Manufacturing
• Promote and develop technical growth among Division Engineering Department and Manufacturing Plant engineers and technicians
• Influencing division wide drying process initiatives
Travel: You can expect between 10 – 50% travel, project related, both domestic and international
Hours of work/work schedule/flextime:
• You will typically work M-F, 8-5, but we need your flexibility to support off hours as needed.
Required Education & Experience:
• You should have a BS or MS in Ceramic, Chemical, Material or Mechanical Engineering, or other engineering discipline.
Required Skills:
• Sound engineering background
• Use of scientific method to solve challenging problems
• Knowledge of materials processing
• Heat and mass transfer understanding, to include theory, concepts, principles, and techniques
• Working knowledge of basic statistics and process engineering principles
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral
• Experimentation; planning, executing and data/statistical analysis to drive solutions.
• Ability to use data to drive to solutions
• Strong commitment to succeed and implement solutions
• Self-motivated and self-directed, works with minimal supervision
• Hands-on approach; eager to jump in and solve problems
• Technical curiosity, strong work ethic, self-starting.
