Submerged Arc Furnace (SAF) is also called Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) or resistance furnace, which is mainly used to reducing raw ores by carbon reductant and additives for ferroalloys and nonferrous metals production.
Here ferroalloys are include ferrosilicon, ferromanganese, ferrochromium, ferronickel, calcium silicate, ferrotungsten, ferrotitanium, calcium carbide, silicon metal, silicon manganese, ferrosilicon aluminum and other alloys, which are important industrial raw materials in metallurgical industry and chemical raw materials.
It can be divided into circular and rectangular furnace according to shape of furnace, and there are also semi-closed and closed types of furnace.
Submerged arc furnace is energy consumptive industrial furnace consists of furnace shell, roof, lining, conductor, water cooling system, gas collection system, dust removal system, electrode mantel, electrode slipping and lifting, raw materials lifting and feeding, electrode column, arc burning machine, hydraulic system, furnace transformer and many other electrics and auxiliary tools.
