Zeatin is a cytokinin that naturally occurs in plants. It promotes growth of lateral buds and when sprayed on meristems stimulates cell division to produce bushier plants. The exogenous zeatin used in production is a biological plant growth regulator.
Application:
Zeatin exist in many plant extracts, it can promote plant cell division, prevent the degradation of chlorophyll and protein, slow down respiration, maintain cell viability, and delay plant senescence. It is generally transported in the xylem along with transpiration.
1 Promotes callus initiation when combined with auxin .
2 To promotes fruit setting.
3 Delay leaves turn yellow and promote growth.
4 Zeatin has also been shown to promote the resistance of tobacco against the bacterial pathogen seudomonas syringae, in which trans-zeatin has a more prominent effect than cis-zeatin
