In 2017, spermidine-rich wheat germ extract was recognized as a novel food by the European Commission; In March 2020, the European Commission published Regulation (EU) 2020/443, Amendment of the annex to Implementing Regulation (EU) 2017/2470 regarding novel food spermidine-rich wheat germ extract. We follow EU requirements that spermidine-rich wheat germ extract is obtained from unfermented, unmalted wheat germ (Triticum aestivum) through a solid-liquid extraction process. The product has a wide range of applications, from baked goods, chocolate bars, cookies and pasta to liquid foods such as dairy beverages and milkshakes, with virtually no limits. It can be easily incorporated into existing recipes and product innovations.
