Sligo's Pastoral Paradise: A Guided Walk with Valais Blacknose Sheep.
Family adventures in County Sligo are more than just a holiday, they're truly an immersion in the magic of Irish nature and culture. Here, in the picturesque surroundings of Loch Tolt and the Ox Mountains, you will find a unique opportunity to spend time in the company of... sheep. Yes, that's right! Here, among the heather hills and winding paths, you can become a real shepherd, discovering endless expanses of nature and solitude.
A walk with the black-nosed sheep of Valais is not just trekking, it is a whole journey into the world of Irish traditions and harmony with nature. When you set foot on the path along Loch Tolt, with the majestic Ox Mountains looking down at you majestically on one side and the crystal clear waters of the lake sparkling on the other, you'll feel like you're part of something bigger. This gravel path with gentle hills leads to where you will meet the Valais sheep, the fascinating creatures that will be your companions on this extraordinary journey.
Meet the Valais Blacknose Sheep: A Gentle Walk Through Sligo’s Wonders

Walking a sheep is not only fun, but also relaxing. Each sheep has its own rhythm and character, making the walk especially unpredictable. You can't just walk fast and not look back, because if the sheep decide to stop, you'll have to stop too. This pace of walking allows you to truly enjoy the surrounding nature, hear its sounds, feel its smells and enjoy the beauty of the scenery.
Depending on the age of your children, the walk can be tailored to suit your needs. Children aged eight and over can co-lead the sheep, but only when accompanied by an adult on a double leash. Older children over the age of twelve can walk the sheep on their own, although an adult must still be nearby. Dogs are not allowed on this walk, which allows the sheep to feel calm and confident.
This unique walk lasts two hours and takes you approximately 15 kilometers from the farm. This period of time is ideal for enjoying a leisurely pace and spending time in the pleasant company of sheep. Family rates and private bookings are also available and can be arranged at a time that suits you.
All this fun costs 45 euros for an adult and 25 euros for a child. If you want to make your trip even more special, you can book private tours with a minimum of two sheep for midweek. Contact us by email at dingerwhite(at)gmail.com or phone 0868547770 to inquire about available dates and opportunities.
This hike is not just an active pastime, it is a chance to immerse yourself in the unique atmosphere of Irish nature, feel its grandeur and beauty, and, most importantly, spend time with loved ones, creating unforgettable memories.
