Job Description

Meta is seeking a talented Electrical Engineer in Sunnyvale, CA to design and develop cutting-edge hardware for our innovative products. Join our hardware engineering team to drive impactful solutions that shape the future of technology.

Full Description

At Meta, our Electrical Engineers play a pivotal role in creating the hardware that powers our world-class products, from VR headsets to data center infrastructure. This position offers the chance to innovate at the intersection of electrical engineering and consumer technology, directly contributing to Meta's mission of bringing the metaverse to life and connecting billions of people globally. Your work will influence products used by millions, pushing the boundaries of performance, efficiency, and scalability in hardware design. As an Electrical Engineer, you will dive into the design, simulation, and validation of complex electrical systems daily. Weekly, you'll collaborate with cross-functional teams including firmware engineers, mechanical designers, and product managers to integrate power delivery networks and signal integrity solutions into prototypes. Key responsibilities include developing PCB layouts using tools like Altium Designer, performing thermal and power analysis with SPICE simulations, and optimizing high-speed interfaces such as PCIe and USB4. You'll conduct rigorous testing on hardware prototypes, troubleshoot failures using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers, and deliver detailed reports on key metrics like power efficiency and EMI compliance. Monthly, expect to lead design reviews, mentor junior engineers on best practices, and iterate on designs based on field data from production units. Collaboration with supply chain teams ensures manufacturability, while working alongside software teams integrates hardware with custom ASICs. You may also oversee small project teams, setting milestones and tracking deliverables to meet aggressive product launch timelines. Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with a Master's preferred, and at least 5 years of hands-on experience in hardware design for consumer electronics or data centers. Proficiency in schematic capture, PCB design tools like Cadence Allegro or Altium, and simulation software such as LTSpice or Ansys is essential. Deep knowledge of power electronics, including DC-DC converters, PMICs, and battery management systems, is required, along with expertise in high-speed digital design, RF principles, and compliance standards like FCC and UL. Experience with ARM-based processors, FPGA prototyping, and Python scripting for automation is highly valued. Professional certifications such as PE license or IPC CID+ are advantageous. Beyond technical prowess, success demands strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills for presenting complex designs to stakeholders, and a collaborative mindset to thrive in fast-paced environments. You should exhibit leadership in driving projects from concept to production, adaptability to evolving technologies, and a passion for innovation in hardware engineering. Familiarity with agile methodologies and version control systems like Git enhances your ability to contribute effectively. Meta is a leader in social technology, committed to building innovative hardware that connects people across the globe. Our hardware teams in Sunnyvale operate in a dynamic, open-office environment fostering creativity and rapid iteration.
