Job Description

Nuro is seeking a Software Engineer, Autonomy for new grads to develop cutting-edge autonomous driving systems. Join our innovative team in Mountain View, CA, to build safe, reliable robotics that revolutionize local delivery.

Full Description

At Nuro, we're revolutionizing transportation with autonomous delivery vehicles that make everyday life easier and more efficient. As a Software Engineer, Autonomy - New Grad, you'll play a pivotal role in advancing our mission to create a world where goods are delivered seamlessly without human drivers. This entry-level position offers recent graduates the chance to contribute to groundbreaking autonomy technologies, impacting millions through safer, scalable robotic systems that redefine logistics. You'll dive into the core of our autonomy stack from day one, developing perception algorithms to detect and interpret the environment using computer vision and sensor fusion. Daily tasks include writing high-quality C++ code for real-time perception modules, debugging complex issues in simulation environments, and analyzing data from real-world fleet operations to improve detection accuracy. Weekly, you'll collaborate with machine learning engineers to integrate ML models into the pipeline, conduct code reviews, and participate in sprint planning to prioritize features like pedestrian tracking and obstacle avoidance. Monthly deliverables involve performance benchmarking against key metrics such as mean average precision (mAP) and latency under 100ms, contributing to system-wide releases that deploy to our fleet of autonomous vehicles. Expect cross-functional teamwork with mapping, planning, and controls teams to ensure end-to-end functionality, occasionally mentoring interns on best practices. Ideal candidates hold a Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with a strong academic record and relevant coursework or projects in autonomous systems. Proficiency in C++ and Python is essential, along with hands-on experience with computer vision libraries like OpenCV, sensor fusion techniques using Kalman filters, and machine learning frameworks such as TensorFlow or PyTorch. Familiarity with ROS for robotics development and Linux environments is required, plus the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, research-oriented setting. New grad status means 0-1 years of professional experience, but demonstrated passion through internships, capstone projects, or open-source contributions in autonomy is key. U.S. work authorization is necessary without sponsorship. Beyond technical prowess, you'll bring problem-solving skills to tackle ambiguous challenges, strong communication to articulate technical ideas across teams, and a collaborative spirit that fosters innovation. Proficiency in debugging complex systems, writing clean, modular code, and optimizing for real-time performance are crucial competencies. Adaptability to iterate rapidly based on fleet data, along with a growth mindset for learning cutting-edge autonomy research, will set you apart in our dynamic engineering culture. Nuro, founded by graduates of Google's self-driving car project, is at the forefront of autonomous delivery robotics. Our mission is to accelerate humanity's transition to a driverless future, emphasizing safety and efficiency. With a tight-knit team of world-class engineers in Mountain View, CA, we cultivate a culture of bold innovation, ownership, and work-life balance, featuring collaborative open offices, regular hackathons, and a focus on impactful work that scales globally. We offer competitive compensation, with salary not specified but commensurate with experience for new grads, complemented by equity in a high-growth startup. Comprehensive benefits include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, generous PTO starting at 20 days, parental leave, and commuter assistance. Unique perks encompass daily catered meals, fitness stipends, learning budgets for conferences, and flexible hybrid work options to support your well-being. Growth at Nuro is rapid—new grads advance to senior roles within 3-5 years through mentorship, internal mobility across autonomy teams, and funded education like advanced degrees. Seize this opportunity by applying via our careers page, showcasing your portfolio of autonomy projects. Join us to shape the future of robotics.
