Day-to-day, you'll monitor and tune SQL Server and Oracle databases handling terabytes of transactional data from point-of-sale systems and inventory trackers. Expect to design backup strategies that minimize downtime during peak hours, troubleshoot performance bottlenecks during monthly reporting cycles, and collaborate with BI developers to implement indexing for faster ingredient demand queries. You'll also migrate legacy schemas to cloud-hybrid environments like Azure SQL, integrating with our ERP for vendor payments, while conducting security audits to protect sensitive employee and patron information against evolving threats. Routine tasks include scripting automation for log rotations and capacity planning to anticipate growth from new location openings. A bachelor's degree in computer science or related field is required, along with 5+ years of hands-on DBA experience in high-volume retail environments. Proficiency in T-SQL, PL/SQL, and tools like SSMS, Toad, and Data Guard is essential. Oracle OCP or Microsoft MCDBA certification strengthens candidacy, as does familiarity with ETL processes using SSIS. Technical prowess in query optimization and disaster recovery pairs with strong problem-solving under pressure and clear communication for cross-team updates.
