Full Description

At Cisco, this Hardware Engineer I Intern position immerses you in the heart of innovation driving secure, scalable networking solutions worldwide. Based in our San Jose headquarters, you'll contribute to hardware designs that underpin enterprise infrastructure, blending academic knowledge with practical challenges in a dynamic R&D environment. Daily tasks revolve around assisting senior engineers in developing next-gen prototypes for data center switches. You'll generate schematics using Cadence tools, conduct signal integrity simulations on high-speed interfaces like PCIe and 400G Ethernet, and troubleshoot PCB assemblies in the lab using oscilloscopes and logic analyzers. Expect to collaborate on firmware bring-up for ARM-based systems, iterate designs based on thermal and power analysis, and document findings for cross-functional reviews, all while supporting agile sprints on live product roadmaps. Pursuing a BS in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering, with coursework in digital design and electromagnetics. Familiarity with Altium or KiCad for layout, basic scripting in Python for automation, and lab experience with multimeters or spectrum analyzers. Prior projects involving microcontrollers count heavily; no professional experience required. Proficiency in OrCAD capture, HFSS for EM simulation, and Linux for embedded testing. Strong analytical mindset and eagerness to learn in fast-paced settings. Cisco fosters a collaborative culture emphasizing innovation and work-life balance in our vibrant San Jose campus with modern labs and amenities. Market-rate compensation includes comprehensive health coverage, generous PTO, and professional development stipends.
