Job Description

Lightmatter seeks an IT Support Engineer in Mountain View to maintain cutting-edge photonic computing infrastructure. Deliver rapid resolutions for hardware-software issues, ensuring seamless operations for research teams. Advance innovation in AI hardware with hands-on technical expertise.

Full Description

At Lightmatter, our IT Support Engineer plays a pivotal role in upholding the reliability of advanced photonic systems that redefine AI computing. Based in Mountain View, this position supports our mission to accelerate machine learning through light-based processors, keeping engineering workflows uninterrupted amid rapid innovation cycles. Daily tasks center on diagnosing and resolving complex IT incidents across hybrid environments blending photonics hardware with cloud-integrated software stacks. The engineer triages network disruptions in high-speed data transfer setups, performs firmware updates on custom optical interconnects, and configures secure access for cross-functional teams developing next-gen chips. Collaboration with R&D involves scripting automated monitoring tools using Python to preempt bottlenecks in simulation clusters, while maintaining endpoint security against emerging threats in AI research settings. Routine audits of server rooms ensure optimal cooling for sensitive laser components, and on-call rotations handle after-hours escalations for production deployments. Candidates need a bachelor's degree in computer science or electrical engineering, coupled with 3-5 years in IT support within tech hardware firms. Proficiency in Linux administration, TCP/IP networking, and tools like Splunk for log analysis is essential. Familiarity with photonic or semiconductor equipment yields an edge; CompTIA A+ or Network+ certification strengthens applications. Technical prowess in Active Directory management and VMware virtualization pairs with soft skills like precise troubleshooting under pressure and clear stakeholder communication. Adaptability to evolving AI infrastructures and a methodical approach to root-cause analysis distinguish top performers. Lightmatter fosters a collaborative culture where engineers thrive in small, agile teams amid Mountain View's vibrant tech ecosystem. Professional growth accelerates through hands-on projects and internal tech talks, with ample opportunities to influence product roadmaps. We provide competitive compensation aligned with market rates, comprehensive health coverage, generous PTO, and stock options to share in our success.
