Job Description
Theory seeks a skilled Database Administrator to safeguard and optimize our enterprise data systems in the heart of NYC's dynamic business landscape. You'll drive performance enhancements and ensure seamless data flow for strategic decision-making. Join a forward-thinking team shaping innovative business solutions.
Full Description
At Theory, a leader in modern business operations within New York City's vibrant metropolitan hub, the Database Administrator plays a pivotal role in maintaining robust data infrastructure that powers our core operations. This position demands precision in managing high-volume transactional systems, ensuring data integrity and availability across distributed environments. As our business scales, your expertise will directly influence operational efficiency and informed executive strategies.
Daily responsibilities encompass proactive monitoring of database performance using advanced diagnostics, tuning queries to slash latency by up to 40%, and executing routine maintenance on Oracle and SQL Server instances. You'll architect backup and disaster recovery protocols tailored to our multi-petabyte repositories, collaborate with development squads on schema migrations during quarterly product cycles, and conduct security audits to fortify against emerging threats. Expect hands-on involvement in capacity forecasting for peak retail seasons and integrating NoSQL solutions like MongoDB for agile analytics projects, all while documenting processes for seamless team handoffs.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related discipline, backed by at least five years of progressive DBA experience in fast-paced business settings. Proficiency in PL/SQL, T-SQL, and tools such as Oracle Enterprise Manager or SQL Server Management Studio is non-negotiable, complemented by familiarity with cloud platforms like AWS RDS. Oracle OCP or Microsoft MCDBA certifications will set you apart.
Technical prowess in data partitioning, index optimization, and ETL pipelines pairs with soft skills like meticulous troubleshooting under pressure and clear stakeholder communication. Adaptability to evolving business intelligence demands and a knack for scripting automations in Python or PowerShell round out the profile.
Theory fosters a collaborative culture amid NYC's energetic skyline, with cross-functional teams thriving in open workspaces at our SoHo headquarters. Professional growth accelerates through mentorship programs and tech conferences, nurturing long-term careers in a supportive environment.
We provide market-rate compensation, comprehensive health coverage, generous PTO, and 401(k) matching to support your professional journey.
