Job Description

At Notion, the Data Scientist, Growth role drives user expansion through advanced analytics on acquisition channels and feature adoption. You'll uncover insights from vast datasets to optimize growth strategies, collaborating with product and marketing teams. This position offers direct impact on Notion's scaling trajectory in a dynamic SF environment.

Full Description

Notion's Growth Data Science team seeks a sharp analyst to propel user acquisition and retention amid our rapid expansion in productivity software. Reporting to the Head of Growth Analytics, this role sits at the intersection of data, product, and business strategy, uniquely positioned to influence experiments that have shaped millions of workspaces worldwide. With our San Francisco headquarters as the epicenter, you'll thrive in a compact team of 8, leveraging Notion's own platform for seamless collaboration. Daily work centers on dissecting funnel metrics to pinpoint friction in onboarding flows, building predictive models for churn risk using Python and dbt. Expect to design A/B tests for viral loops, partnering with PMs to iterate on database-embedded growth hacks. You'll query terabytes in BigQuery, crafting dashboards in Looker that forecast lifetime value, while syncing with marketing on attribution modeling for paid campaigns. Cross-functional syncs involve presenting cohort analyses to executives, refining SQL pipelines for real-time feature usage signals, and prototyping ML solutions for personalized recommendations. Projects span from optimizing referral programs to segmenting enterprise leads via clustering algorithms. Candidates shine with a Master's in Statistics, Computer Science, or Quantitative field, backed by 4+ years in growth analytics at tech firms like Slack or Amplitude users. Proficiency in Python (Pandas, Scikit-learn), SQL at expert level, and experimentation platforms like Optimizely is essential. Familiarity with cloud data warehouses and causal inference methods sets top performers apart; prior exposure to SaaS metrics or Bayesian stats adds edge. Bonus for publications in KDD or contributions to open-source growth tools. Beyond technical prowess, success demands storytelling with data—translating complex regressions into actionable narratives for non-technical stakeholders. Curiosity fuels hypothesis-driven problem-solving, while adaptability navigates ambiguous growth puzzles. Strong coding hygiene and experimental rigor pair with collaborative instincts, fostering trust in high-stakes decisions. Experience mentoring juniors or leading data initiatives rounds out the profile. Notion's culture pulses with maker energy, where async updates via databases replace endless meetings, empowering deep focus amid SF's innovation buzz. Teams blend remote flexibility with vibrant in-office days featuring demo Fridays and hack weeks that birthed core features. Professional growth accelerates through internal mobility—many data scientists pivot to product leadership—and mentorship from founders steeped in AI optimism. Equity in our mission to organize the world's work fuels long-term commitment. Total rewards blend competitive base salary calibrated to SF market ($190K-$240K), performance-tied equity vesting over four years, and target bonuses hitting 20%. Comprehensive health coverage includes dental vision through top carriers, plus fertility support and mental health stipends. 401(k) matching vests immediately, alongside unlimited PTO that averages 25+ days taken. Perks encompass catered lunches thrice weekly, annual learning budgets for conferences like NeurIPS, and commuter subsidies for BART or cycling to our SoMa office.
