Job Description
The Museum of Modern Art seeks a Social Media Coordinator to craft engaging content that amplifies our world-class exhibitions and programs across digital platforms. Join our dynamic team in New York to connect art lovers globally while growing your career in a prestigious cultural institution.
Full Description
At The Museum of Modern Art (MoMA), the Social Media Coordinator plays a pivotal role in bridging our iconic collection and groundbreaking exhibitions with a global audience. This position is essential for enhancing our digital presence, fostering community engagement, and driving awareness of modern and contemporary art. By creating compelling narratives online, you'll contribute to MoMA's mission of making art accessible, inspiring millions and solidifying our status as a cultural leader in New York and beyond.
Your day-to-day will involve developing and executing social media strategies tailored to promote exhibitions, events, and educational programs. You'll create visually stunning content using platforms like Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, TikTok, and LinkedIn, including posts, stories, reels, and live sessions that highlight artworks, artist spotlights, and behind-the-scenes glimpses. Weekly tasks include monitoring engagement metrics, analyzing performance data with tools like Google Analytics and Hootsuite, and adjusting campaigns to optimize reach and interaction rates, aiming for key metrics such as 10% monthly growth in followers and 5% engagement uplift. Monthly, you'll collaborate with the marketing, curatorial, and education teams to plan content calendars, coordinate cross-promotions, and produce multimedia assets like short videos and infographics. You'll also manage community interactions, responding to comments and DMs promptly to build loyal followers, while reporting insights to senior staff on trends and ROI. Expect to lead small projects, such as viral challenges or influencer partnerships, ensuring all content aligns with MoMA's brand voice.
Ideal candidates hold a bachelor's degree in communications, marketing, digital media, or a related field, with at least 2-3 years of hands-on experience in social media management, preferably in arts, culture, or non-profit sectors. Proficiency in content creation tools like Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, and video editing software is required, alongside strong knowledge of social media algorithms and best practices. Familiarity with analytics platforms such as Sprout Social or Buffer, and experience with paid social advertising on Meta and Google, are highly valued. Museum or gallery experience is a plus, along with any certifications in digital marketing from Google or HubSpot.
Beyond technical expertise, success demands exceptional written and visual communication skills to craft captivating stories that resonate with diverse audiences. You'll thrive in a collaborative environment, demonstrating creativity, adaptability, and a passion for modern art. Strong organizational skills are crucial for juggling multiple campaigns, while cultural sensitivity ensures inclusive content that reflects MoMA's global perspective. Problem-solving abilities will help navigate fast-paced trends and platform changes effectively.
Founded in 1929, The Museum of Modern Art is the world's leading museum of modern and contemporary art, housing over 200,000 works across painting, sculpture, photography, and more. Our mission is to champion creativity and connect people with art through innovative exhibitions and programs. MoMA fosters a collaborative, inclusive culture with diverse teams in a vibrant Manhattan setting, emphasizing work-life balance, professional growth, and a shared passion for art that inspires innovation daily.
Compensation for this role is not specified, reflecting its categorization in the non-profit volunteer space, though opportunities for stipends or professional development support may be available. As a non-profit, we offer robust benefits including health insurance options, retirement plans through TIAA, generous paid time off, and flexible scheduling. Team members enjoy complimentary museum access, exclusive event invitations, travel reimbursements for industry conferences, and wellness programs promoting creative well-being.
MoMA invests in your growth with mentorship programs, workshops on emerging digital trends, and pathways to senior roles in digital strategy or communications.
