Join Northwestern Medicine as a Clinical Nurse on the General Medicine 15W unit, a pivotal role in delivering high-quality, compassionate care to adult patients with diverse medical conditions. In this full-time night shift position, you will assess patient conditions upon admission and throughout their stay, developing and implementing individualized care plans tailored to conditions like respiratory issues, cardiac disorders, and infectious diseases. Daily tasks include administering medications, IV therapies, and wound care with precision, monitoring vital signs using advanced telemetry systems, and responding swiftly to emergencies. You will collaborate closely with physicians, respiratory therapists, pharmacists, and social workers during multidisciplinary rounds to optimize treatment plans. Weekly, conduct patient education sessions on disease management and discharge planning, while documenting all interventions meticulously in the electronic health record (EHR) system to meet compliance standards. Monthly responsibilities encompass participating in quality improvement initiatives, such as auditing care metrics for infection rates and readmissions, and precepting new nurses to foster team development. Expect to manage 4-6 patients per shift, prioritizing tasks based on acuity levels and achieving key metrics like timely medication administration and high patient satisfaction scores.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) from an accredited program, with an active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Illinois and BLS certification; ACLS preferred. A minimum of one year of acute care nursing experience, ideally in general medicine or telemetry, is required, along with proficiency in EHR systems like Epic and strong knowledge of medical-surgical protocols. Familiarity with evidence-based practices for adult medicine patients is essential.
Essential skills include expert clinical assessment and critical thinking to make rapid decisions in high-pressure environments, alongside exceptional communication for patient-family interactions and team handoffs.
