Job Description
Join Teach For America as a K-12 Teacher and Education Advocate in Dallas-Fort Worth. All majors and career backgrounds welcome to make a transformative impact on students' lives through innovative teaching.
Full Description
Teach For America seeks passionate individuals to serve as K-12 Teachers and Education Advocates in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive educational equity, empower underserved students, and contribute to systemic change in education. Corps members play a pivotal role in the organization's mission to expand opportunities for children, fostering leadership and commitment to closing achievement gaps across diverse communities.
As a corps member, you will design and deliver rigorous, engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse K-12 classrooms, differentiating instruction to meet individual student needs and accelerate academic growth. Daily tasks include leading interactive lessons in core subjects like math, reading, science, and social studies, assessing student progress through formative and summative evaluations, and analyzing data to refine teaching strategies. Weekly, you will collaborate with school administrators, fellow teachers, and Teach For America mentors to co-plan interdisciplinary projects, participate in professional development workshops, and implement culturally responsive pedagogy. Monthly responsibilities encompass tracking key metrics such as student growth percentiles, attendance rates, and mastery of standards-aligned objectives, while advocating for resources and policy changes at school board meetings. You will also mentor student leaders, organize family engagement events, and contribute to school-wide initiatives like literacy campaigns or STEM fairs, ensuring holistic student development. Leadership duties involve managing classroom dynamics, fostering inclusive environments, and modeling perseverance to inspire long-term academic success.
No specific degree or prior teaching experience is required, as Teach For America welcomes applicants from all majors and career backgrounds, including business, engineering, arts, sciences, and more. A bachelor's degree by the program start is the primary educational requirement, with no field of study restriction to encourage diverse perspectives in education. While teaching certifications are not mandatory upon entry, intensive summer training provides licensure pathways in Texas. Relevant experience can include any professional role demonstrating leadership, such as project management, community organizing, or team collaboration, with at least one year post-graduation preferred for commitment readiness.
Essential skills include strong communication to build relationships with students, families, and colleagues, adaptability to navigate dynamic classroom challenges, and leadership to drive student motivation and team initiatives. Proficiency in data analysis tools like Google Sheets or educational platforms such as Google Classroom and IXL supports personalized instruction. Cultural competency and passion for equity are core, alongside problem-solving to address learning barriers creatively. Resilience and growth mindset enable continuous improvement through reflection and feedback.
Founded in 1989, Teach For America is a premier nonprofit uniting diverse leaders to transform education and expand opportunities for children facing poverty. Operating in 50+ regions nationwide, including Dallas-Fort Worth, the organization boasts a vibrant alumni network of over 60,000 influencing policy, business, and philanthropy. The collaborative culture emphasizes innovation, equity, and joy, with supportive cohorts, mentorship, and a focus on work-life integration in a purpose-driven environment.
Compensation is not specified but typically includes a competitive teacher salary aligned with district scales, around $50,000-$60,000 annually in Texas, plus performance stipends. Comprehensive benefits encompass health, dental, and vision insurance, retirement savings plans with matching, and paid maternity/paternity leave. Corps members enjoy extensive paid time off during school breaks, professional development stipends for certifications, relocation assistance, and access to affinity networks. Additional perks include student loan support and housing resources in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Career growth abounds through two-year corps service leading to alumni opportunities in education leadership, policy advocacy, and beyond. Professional development includes ongoing training, coaching, and pathways to advanced certifications.
