Job Description
Join Teach For America as a K-12 Teacher and Education Advocate in Las Vegas. All majors and career backgrounds welcome to make a transformative impact on students' lives through innovative teaching and advocacy.
Full Description
Teach For America is seeking passionate individuals to serve as K-12 Teachers and Education Advocates in the Las Vegas Metropolitan Area. This role offers a unique opportunity to drive educational equity and empower underserved students, contributing significantly to our mission of expanding opportunities for children facing systemic barriers. By joining our corps, you become part of a nationwide movement that has placed over 60,000 leaders in classrooms, fostering long-term change in communities like Las Vegas.
As a Teacher and Education Advocate, your daily responsibilities will revolve around delivering high-impact instruction in K-12 classrooms. You will design and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to diverse student needs, differentiating instruction to support academic growth and mastery of core subjects like math, reading, and science. Weekly, you'll assess student progress through formative and summative evaluations, analyzing data to adjust teaching strategies and meet key metrics such as improved test scores and attendance rates. Monthly, you'll collaborate with school administrators, fellow corps members, and community stakeholders to develop advocacy initiatives, such as parent engagement programs or policy recommendations for better resource allocation. You will lead small group interventions, mentor students on college and career readiness, and facilitate professional development workshops for local educators. Expect to manage classroom dynamics, foster inclusive environments, and track deliverables like individualized learning plans, all while building partnerships with nonprofit organizations to amplify student voices in education reform.
While all majors and career backgrounds are welcome, successful candidates typically hold a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution, with no specific field required due to our inclusive approach. Prior teaching experience is not mandatory, as we provide intensive training, but any classroom exposure, tutoring, or youth mentorship strengthens your application. Key competencies include familiarity with educational standards like Common Core, basic proficiency in tools such as Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and data analysis platforms like Excel or Tableau for tracking student outcomes. Passion for equity-driven education and a commitment to two-year service are essential, along with a willingness to obtain state teaching certification through our program.
Essential skills for this role blend technical and interpersonal strengths. Proficiency in curriculum development software and virtual learning platforms ensures effective lesson delivery, while strong communication skills enable clear parent-teacher interactions and persuasive advocacy. Leadership competencies shine in motivating diverse student groups and collaborating across teams, complemented by adaptability, cultural competence, and problem-solving to navigate classroom challenges. Resilience and a growth mindset are critical for thriving in high-needs environments.
Teach For America, founded in 1989, is a premier nonprofit dedicated to ending educational inequity by recruiting diverse leaders to teach in low-income communities. Our Las Vegas region supports a collaborative team of corps members, alumni, and staff who embody values of excellence, equity, and perseverance. The culture emphasizes relentless pursuit of results, supportive professional networks, and a vibrant community of changemakers, offering a dynamic work environment that blends classroom intensity with advocacy innovation.
Compensation is competitive and not specified in the posting, reflecting market rates for corps members with comprehensive support including stipends aligned to local teacher salaries. Benefits encompass health insurance, dental and vision coverage, retirement savings plans, and professional liability insurance. Corps members enjoy generous paid time off, relocation assistance, and access to student loan forgiveness programs. Additional perks include flexible scheduling during summers for professional growth and networking events.
Career growth is a cornerstone, with 60% of alumni advancing to leadership roles in education, policy, and nonprofits. Engage in ongoing training, coaching, and alumni networks for advancement. To apply, visit Teach For America's website, submit your application, and prepare for interviews highlighting your potential impact.
