Job Description
Vericon Construction seeks an Assistant Project Manager to support successful delivery of construction projects in the Washington DC-Baltimore area. Assist in planning, execution, and coordination to ensure projects meet timelines, budgets, and quality standards while collaborating with teams and stakeholders.
Full Description
Join Vericon Construction as an Assistant Project Manager in the Washington DC-Baltimore area, a pivotal role that supports the seamless execution of high-impact construction and facilities projects. This position is essential for driving operational efficiency, ensuring projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest safety and quality standards, directly contributing to the company's reputation for excellence in the construction industry and fostering long-term client relationships through reliable project delivery.
In this dynamic role, you will assist the Project Manager in all phases of project lifecycle, from initial planning to final closeout. Daily tasks include monitoring project progress, updating schedules using tools like MS Project or Primavera, and tracking budgets to identify variances early. Weekly, you will coordinate with subcontractors, conduct site visits to oversee construction activities, and prepare status reports for stakeholders. Monthly responsibilities encompass reviewing cost reports, facilitating team meetings to resolve issues, and ensuring compliance with safety regulations such as OSHA standards. You will manage document control, process change orders, and mitigate risks by developing contingency plans. Collaboration is key, working closely with architects, engineers, clients, and internal teams to deliver milestones, achieve key performance indicators like schedule adherence over 95%, and maintain project profitability. Leadership elements include mentoring junior staff and supporting procurement processes for materials and vendors.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field, with at least 2-4 years of progressive experience in construction project coordination or assistant management roles. Proficiency in project management software such as Procore, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite is required, along with working knowledge of AutoCAD for reviewing drawings. Familiarity with construction methodologies, including lean construction principles and BIM processes, is essential. Industry certifications like CCPM (Certified Construction Project Manager) or OSHA 30-hour training are highly preferred. Strong understanding of local building codes in the DC-Baltimore region and experience with facilities maintenance projects will set you apart.
Success in this role demands a blend of technical expertise and interpersonal skills. Technically, you should excel in data analysis for forecasting project outcomes and using digital tools for real-time collaboration. Soft skills such as exceptional communication for stakeholder updates, problem-solving to address on-site challenges, and leadership to motivate teams are crucial. Organizational prowess ensures multitasking across multiple projects, while adaptability thrives in fast-paced construction environments. Industry competencies include risk assessment, contract negotiation basics, and sustainable building practices.
