Job Overview: The Outreach Specialist position at the NYC Department of Social Services (DSS) is a vital role focused on engaging underserved communities in Manhattan to connect them with critical social services. This position plays a key part in bridging gaps for individuals and families facing challenges such as homelessness, food insecurity, mental health issues, and economic hardship. As part of a dedicated non-profit team, you will conduct fieldwork, build partnerships, and deliver compassionate support to improve lives across New York City. Key Responsibilities: Develop and implement outreach strategies to identify and assist at-risk populations in local neighborhoods. Conduct door-to-door visits, attend community events, and host workshops to raise awareness of available DSS programs including SNAP, cash assistance, and housing support. Build relationships with community leaders, organizations, and stakeholders to expand service reach. Assess client needs through interviews and referrals, providing guidance on eligibility and application processes. Maintain accurate records of outreach activities, client interactions, and outcomes using DSS case management systems. Collaborate with caseworkers, program coordinators, and external partners to ensure seamless service delivery. Participate in training sessions and stay updated on social service policies and best practices. Advocate for clients by representing their needs in meetings and facilitating access to additional resources like healthcare and job training. Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Human Services, Public Administration, or a related field; Master's preferred. At least 2 years of experience in outreach, community engagement, or social services. Knowledge of NYC social welfare programs and local community dynamics. Valid NY driver's license and ability to travel throughout Manhattan. Must pass background check and be eligible for city employment.
