Job Description
KIPP Columbus seeks an Upper Elementary School Teacher for grades 2-5 in the 2026-27 school year. Join our mission-driven team to inspire academic excellence and character development in Columbus, Ohio students.
Full Description
KIPP Columbus is seeking a passionate Upper Elementary School Teacher for grades 2 through 5 during the 2026-27 school year. This role is pivotal in shaping young minds, fostering a love for learning, and driving student achievement in a high-performing public charter school network committed to college readiness and life success for underserved communities. Your work will directly contribute to closing the opportunity gap, empowering students to reach their highest potential through rigorous academics and strong character development.
As an Upper Elementary Teacher, you will plan and deliver engaging, standards-aligned lessons in core subjects like math, reading, science, and social studies tailored to grades 2-5 learners. Daily tasks include leading interactive classroom instruction, differentiating lessons for diverse needs, assessing student progress through formative and summative evaluations, and providing targeted interventions to ensure mastery. Weekly, you'll collaborate with grade-level teams to analyze data, refine curriculum, and co-plan units, while participating in professional learning communities. Monthly responsibilities encompass parent-teacher conferences, progress reporting, and contributing to school-wide initiatives like literacy nights or STEM projects. You'll manage classroom behavior using positive reinforcement systems, track key metrics such as growth on state assessments and reading levels, and lead small group instruction. Additionally, you'll partner with special education staff, counselors, and administrators to support holistic student development, mentor teaching fellows if applicable, and uphold school-wide systems for attendance and homework completion.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in education or a related field, with Ohio teaching certification for grades 2-5 required or eligibility to obtain it promptly. At least two years of lead teaching experience in elementary settings is preferred, particularly in urban or charter schools serving diverse populations. Proficiency in data-driven instruction, familiarity with Ohio's academic standards, and experience with tools like Google Classroom, IXL, or NWEA MAP assessments are essential. Knowledge of culturally responsive teaching practices and differentiation strategies for English language learners and students with IEPs is crucial.
Successful candidates demonstrate strong classroom management skills, adaptability in dynamic environments, and relentless commitment to student growth. Excellent communication facilitates parent partnerships and team collaboration, while leadership shines in initiating school improvements. You excel in building relationships with students from varied backgrounds, maintaining high energy for engaging lessons, and using feedback to refine practice. Technological savvy with educational software and a growth mindset round out the competencies that thrive in our fast-paced, mission-focused setting.
