Job Description
Emerald Resource Group seeks a Junior SQL Database Administrator to manage and optimize SQL databases, ensuring data integrity and performance. Join our team to support critical business operations in a dynamic US-based environment.
Full Description
As a Junior SQL Database Administrator at Emerald Resource Group, you will play a vital role in maintaining the backbone of our data infrastructure. This position is essential for ensuring seamless database operations that drive business decisions, enhance system reliability, and support company growth. Your contributions will directly impact our ability to deliver high-quality services to clients across various industries, fostering innovation and efficiency in our technological ecosystem.
In your daily role, you will monitor SQL Server databases for performance issues, applying optimizations and troubleshooting bottlenecks to maintain 99.9% uptime. Weekly tasks include executing routine backups, verifying data integrity through checksums, and generating reports on database health metrics like query response times and storage utilization. Monthly, you will participate in capacity planning meetings, forecasting storage needs and proposing upgrades. You will collaborate closely with development teams to review schema changes, assist senior DBAs in disaster recovery drills, and implement security patches. Additionally, you will document procedures, automate routine maintenance scripts using PowerShell, and support data migration projects, ensuring all deliverables meet SLA standards while contributing to team knowledge-sharing sessions.
To succeed in this role, candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, along with 1-3 years of hands-on experience with Microsoft SQL Server in a production environment. Proficiency in T-SQL for writing complex queries, stored procedures, and functions is required, as is familiarity with SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS), indexing strategies, and replication. Knowledge of Windows Server administration, backup tools like SQL Server Agent, and basic understanding of cloud databases such as Azure SQL is essential. Certifications like Microsoft Certified: Azure Database Administrator Associate or SQL Server fundamentals are highly preferred, demonstrating your technical foundation and commitment to the field.
Beyond technical expertise, you will bring strong analytical problem-solving skills, attention to meticulous detail, and the ability to communicate complex database concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in scripting languages like PowerShell for automation, along with a proactive approach to learning emerging database technologies, will set you apart. Excellent time management and teamwork competencies are crucial, as you will thrive in a collaborative setting, adapting quickly to evolving priorities while maintaining high standards of data security and performance.
