Job Description
Simply Protein for Pets seeks a Staff or Senior Accountant to manage financial operations for our innovative pet nutrition company. Join us to ensure accurate reporting, compliance, and strategic financial insights that drive business growth.
Full Description
At Simply Protein for Pets, we are revolutionizing pet nutrition with high-quality, protein-rich products that keep pets healthy and happy. The Staff or Senior Accountant plays a pivotal role in our financial health, overseeing accounting processes that support our rapid growth and innovation in the pet food industry. This position offers the chance to impact our mission by delivering precise financial data that informs key decisions, from product development to market expansion, ensuring we remain a leader in sustainable pet care.
As a key member of the finance team, you will handle daily general ledger maintenance, reconciling accounts and posting journal entries with meticulous attention to detail. Weekly, you'll prepare financial reports and analyze variances to identify cost-saving opportunities, collaborating closely with operations and sales teams to track inventory costs and revenue streams. Monthly responsibilities include leading the close process, computing accruals, and ensuring timely month-end deliverables that meet our aggressive growth targets. You will manage accounts payable and receivable cycles, optimizing cash flow through vendor negotiations and customer invoicing. Additionally, you'll support budgeting and forecasting projects, providing metrics on key performance indicators like gross margins and EBITDA. For senior-level candidates, this role involves mentoring junior staff and contributing to audit preparations, working cross-functionally with department heads to align financial strategies with business objectives. Expect involvement in special projects, such as system implementations or compliance reviews, ensuring all tasks adhere to GAAP standards.
Candidates must hold a Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, with 3-7 years of progressive experience in accounting roles, preferably in consumer goods or manufacturing. CPA certification is highly preferred, along with proven expertise in ERP systems like QuickBooks, NetSuite, or SAP. Familiarity with pet industry regulations and cost accounting in a production environment is essential. You should demonstrate strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel for advanced modeling and data analysis, with experience in financial software for reporting and compliance.
Success in this role demands technical mastery of accounting principles, including GAAP and IFRS, alongside proficiency in tools like Excel pivot tables, Power BI for visualizations, and automation scripts for efficiency. Soft skills are equally vital: exceptional analytical thinking to dissect complex datasets, precise attention to detail for error-free reporting, and strong communication to present findings to non-financial stakeholders. Adaptability in a fast-paced startup environment, proactive problem-solving, and a collaborative mindset will set you apart, enabling seamless teamwork across departments.
Simply Protein for Pets is a dynamic company dedicated to crafting premium, protein-focused pet foods using sustainable ingredients. Our mission is to enhance pet wellness through innovative nutrition, guided by values of integrity, innovation, and passion for animals. We foster a supportive, pet-friendly culture with a lean, collaborative team structure that encourages work-life balance and creative input. Based in the United States, we offer a vibrant work environment where your contributions directly shape our future.
We offer competitive compensation commensurate with experience, as salary details are not specified in the posting but tailored to qualifications. Comprehensive benefits include health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, and generous PTO starting at 15 days annually. Additional perks feature flexible hybrid work options, pet insurance discounts, professional development stipends, and performance-based bonuses.
