Job Description

Feather Robotics seeks a skilled Robotics Engineer specializing in hardware and wiring to design and integrate robust systems for cutting-edge robotic platforms. Join our innovative team in East Palo Alto to drive hardware excellence and accelerate product development.

Full Description

At Feather Robotics, we are pioneering the future of autonomous robotics with lightweight, agile systems designed for real-world applications. As a Robotics Engineer focused on hardware and wiring, you will play a pivotal role in building the physical backbone of our robots, ensuring seamless integration of components that power intelligent motion and interaction. Your work will directly impact our ability to deliver reliable, high-performance robots that transform industries from logistics to healthcare, contributing to our mission of making robotics accessible and efficient. Your day-to-day will revolve around hands-on hardware design and assembly. You will develop custom wiring harnesses and electrical layouts for robotic actuators, sensors, and controllers, optimizing for space, weight, and reliability in dynamic environments. Weekly tasks include prototyping circuit boards, soldering connections, and testing wiring integrity under stress conditions like vibration and temperature extremes. You will collaborate closely with firmware engineers to integrate wiring schematics with software controls, ensuring signal integrity and power distribution. Monthly deliverables encompass full hardware assemblies for robot prototypes, documentation of wiring diagrams using tools like KiCad, and performance reports on metrics such as voltage drop, EMI reduction, and assembly time. Expect to lead small cross-functional projects with mechanical and systems teams, troubleshooting integration issues and iterating designs based on field testing data. Participation in design reviews and supplier coordination for custom cables will be routine, fostering a rhythm of rapid prototyping and refinement. To succeed, you need a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related field, with at least 3-5 years of hands-on experience in robotics hardware development. Proficiency in PCB design software like Altium Designer or Eagle is essential, alongside expertise in wiring standards such as IPC/WHMA-A-620 for harness assembly. Familiarity with robotic platforms like ROS-integrated hardware, servo motors, IMUs, and LiDAR sensors is required. Knowledge of power systems, including DC-DC converters and battery management for mobile robots, along with certifications in soldering or IPC standards, will set you apart. Industry experience in agile robotics or automation startups is highly valued to hit the ground running. Beyond technical prowess, you will bring strong problem-solving skills to diagnose complex wiring faults and innovate under tight deadlines. Excellent communication is key for documenting designs and collaborating with software and mechanical teams via tools like Jira and Confluence. Attention to detail ensures precision in routing and shielding to prevent failures, while adaptability thrives in our fast-paced environment. A passion for robotics, coupled with hands-on prototyping competencies, will enable you to contribute creatively to hardware innovations. Feather Robotics, based in East Palo Alto, CA, is a dynamic startup revolutionizing robotics with featherweight, intelligent machines. Our mission is to democratize automation through efficient, scalable hardware. We foster a collaborative culture with flat teams of 20-30 engineers, emphasizing innovation, work-life balance, and hands-on experimentation in a modern open office.
