Full Description
At Slate & Associates, Attorneys at Law, the Construction Inspector - Engineering role is pivotal in safeguarding the integrity of construction projects tied to our legal practice. Your expertise will directly impact our ability to deliver high-quality legal services in construction litigation, dispute resolution, and advisory matters, contributing to client successes and firm reputation in Pearland, TX.
As a Construction Inspector, your day-to-day tasks will revolve around hands-on field inspections and detailed reporting. You will conduct daily site visits to assess structural integrity, material quality, and adherence to engineering plans, documenting observations with photographs, measurements, and notes. Weekly, you will compile inspection reports, highlighting deficiencies and recommending corrective actions, while collaborating with engineers, contractors, architects, and our legal team to resolve issues promptly. Monthly responsibilities include reviewing project blueprints, performing quality assurance audits, tracking compliance metrics such as safety violation rates and timeline adherence, and preparing evidence packages for potential legal proceedings. You may lead small inspection teams on complex sites, mentor junior staff, and interface with municipal inspectors to expedite approvals. Expect to manage deliverables like detailed logs and certification verifications, ensuring all projects meet industry benchmarks and legal standards.
Candidates must hold a bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with at least 5 years of progressive experience in construction inspection. Professional certifications such as ICC Certified Building Inspector, NICET Level II or higher in Civil Engineering Technology, and OSHA 30-hour training are required. Proficiency in tools like AutoCAD, Bluebeam Revu, and inspection software such as Procore or PlanGrid is essential, along with hands-on experience with testing equipment for concrete, soil, and steel. Knowledge of Texas building codes, ADA standards, and construction law principles is mandatory. A valid driver's license and ability to work in outdoor conditions are also necessary.
Success in this role demands strong technical skills in structural analysis, blueprint reading, and nondestructive testing methods, paired with soft skills like exceptional attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication for reports and stakeholder meetings, and problem-solving under pressure. You should excel in collaborative environments, demonstrating leadership in coordinating multidisciplinary teams and a commitment to safety protocols. Industry competencies include familiarity with sustainable construction practices and forensic engineering techniques relevant to legal contexts.
