Job Description

Join Canva's Austin team as a Business Development Representative, driving growth by identifying leads, nurturing prospects, and closing deals for our design platform. Play a key role in expanding Canva's market presence and empowering millions with creative tools.

Full Description

At Canva, our Business Development Representative plays a pivotal role in fueling our mission to democratize design and empower everyone to create visual content effortlessly. Based in our vibrant Austin office, you'll drive revenue growth by uncovering new business opportunities, building strategic partnerships, and expanding our reach across diverse industries. This position is crucial for scaling Canva's impact, as your efforts directly contribute to onboarding new customers—from startups to enterprises—and accelerating our global expansion in a competitive SaaS landscape. Your day-to-day will revolve around proactive outreach, starting with researching and qualifying high-potential leads using tools like LinkedIn Sales Navigator and CRM systems. You'll make 50-70 cold calls and send 30-40 personalized emails weekly, crafting compelling pitches that highlight Canva's intuitive design features. Expect to schedule and conduct 10-15 discovery calls per week, demoing our platform to showcase templates, collaboration tools, and AI-powered features. Monthly, you'll manage a pipeline of 100+ opportunities, negotiating contracts worth $50K-$500K annually, and collaborating closely with account executives, marketing, and product teams to refine strategies. You'll track key metrics such as lead conversion rates (target 20%), deal velocity, and quota attainment (100% of $600K OTE), while participating in team huddles to share wins and tackle pipeline bottlenecks. Occasional travel for industry events will keep you connected to market trends. Success requires a bachelor's degree in Business, Marketing, Communications, or a related field, plus 1-3 years of inside sales or business development experience in SaaS or tech. Proficiency in Salesforce, HubSpot, or similar CRMs is essential, along with strong knowledge of sales methodologies like MEDDIC or Challenger Sale. Familiarity with design tools, digital marketing platforms, and Google Workspace is a plus. No specific certifications are mandated, but Sales Academy completions or Google Analytics certs strengthen applications. Candidates must thrive in fast-paced environments with data-driven decision-making. Beyond technical prowess, you'll excel with exceptional verbal and written communication skills to articulate value propositions persuasively. Resilience and adaptability are key for handling rejection and pivoting strategies, paired with a hunter mentality to relentlessly pursue leads. Strong relationship-building fosters long-term partnerships, while analytical skills enable pipeline forecasting and ROI demonstrations. Collaborative spirit ensures seamless teamwork, and a creative mindset aligns perfectly with Canva's innovative culture. Canva is a global visual communication platform trusted by 170 million+ users, with a mission to empower the world to design. Our Austin team embodies our values of boldness, trust, and gratitude, fostering a collaborative, inclusive environment with flexible hybrid work options. We celebrate diversity through ERGs and prioritize work-life balance in a fun, supportive culture that fuels creativity. We offer competitive compensation (salary not specified), comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, plus 401(k) matching. Enjoy unlimited PTO, generous parental leave, wellness stipends, and stock options for equity ownership. Perks include home office setups, learning budgets, and team events, with flexible hours to suit your rhythm. Advance your career through mentorship programs, sales training, and paths to Senior BDR or Account Executive roles. Canva invests in your growth with conferences and certifications.
