Job Description
Lensa is seeking a Remote Insurance Verification Specialist to accurately verify patient insurance coverage and ensure seamless billing processes. This fully remote role supports healthcare providers by handling eligibility checks, authorizations, and claims documentation with precision and efficiency.
Full Description
Join Lensa as a Remote Insurance Verification Specialist and play a pivotal role in streamlining healthcare operations. In this crucial position, you will ensure accurate insurance eligibility verification, enabling efficient billing and reducing claim denials for healthcare providers nationwide. Your meticulous work directly impacts patient care delivery and company revenue by minimizing financial discrepancies and supporting seamless provider reimbursements.
As an Insurance Verification Specialist, your day-to-day tasks will revolve around contacting insurance companies via phone, online portals, and email to confirm coverage details for upcoming procedures and services. Daily, you will review patient demographics, verify primary and secondary insurance policies, and document benefits including deductibles, copays, and out-of-pocket maximums. Weekly, you will handle high-volume verifications, typically 50-80 cases, while tracking authorization statuses and following up on pending approvals to prevent delays in patient scheduling. Monthly, you will generate reports on verification accuracy rates, denial trends, and turnaround times, collaborating closely with billing teams, case managers, and clinical staff to resolve discrepancies. You will also assist in appeals for denied claims, ensure compliance with HIPAA and payer guidelines, and mentor junior team members on best practices for efficient verification workflows. Expect to use CRM systems to log interactions and metrics, aiming for 98% accuracy in documentation and under 24-hour turnaround for standard requests.
To succeed in this role, candidates must have a high school diploma or equivalent, with an Associate's degree in healthcare administration or a related field strongly preferred. At least 2-3 years of direct experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or authorizations within a healthcare setting is required, ideally in a high-volume environment. Proficiency in insurance verification software such as Availity, Change Healthcare, or Epic modules is essential, along with strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT coding, and major payers like Medicare, Medicaid, Blue Cross, and UnitedHealthcare. Relevant certifications such as Certified Professional Coder (CPC) or Certified Billing and Coding Specialist (CBCS) will set you apart. Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical terminology is non-negotiable to handle sensitive patient data securely.
Beyond technical expertise, you will bring exceptional attention to detail, rapid data entry skills, and the ability to multitask in a fast-paced remote environment. Strong verbal and written communication skills are vital for negotiating with insurers and collaborating with cross-functional teams. Problem-solving prowess helps in navigating complex payer policies, while organizational skills ensure timely follow-ups. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel for reporting, and adaptability to shifting priorities round out the ideal competency set.
