Job Description

MacKay Sposito seeks a Construction Inspector in Vancouver, WA to ensure project quality and compliance. Join our team to oversee inspections, verify standards, and contribute to successful infrastructure builds.

Full Description

Join MacKay Sposito as a Construction Inspector and play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality infrastructure projects across the Pacific Northwest. This position is essential for upholding safety standards, ensuring regulatory compliance, and driving the success of our civil engineering and construction initiatives, directly impacting community development and client satisfaction through meticulous oversight and expertise. As a Construction Inspector, your day-to-day involves conducting thorough field inspections of construction sites, including roads, bridges, utilities, and public facilities, to verify adherence to plans, specifications, and codes. You will perform daily material testing, such as concrete slump tests, soil compaction checks, and asphalt density evaluations, documenting results with photos and reports for project records. Weekly tasks include coordinating with contractors, engineers, and subcontractors to resolve issues, reviewing submittals for shop drawings and product data, and preparing detailed inspection reports with metrics on compliance rates and defect resolutions. Monthly responsibilities encompass progress meetings with stakeholders, auditing contractor documentation for permits and certifications, and contributing to project closeout by verifying punch list completions. Expect to collaborate closely with project managers, surveyors, and regulatory agencies, occasionally leading small inspection teams on complex assignments. Candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, supplemented by an associate's or bachelor's degree in civil engineering, construction management, or a related field preferred. A minimum of 3-5 years of hands-on experience in construction inspection, particularly in public works or infrastructure projects, is required. Key technical skills include proficiency with inspection tools like nuclear gauges, concrete testing equipment, and software such as Bluebeam Revu, Agtek, or AutoCAD for plan reviews. Certifications such as ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Grade I, NICET Level II in Highway Construction, or ICC Special Inspector are highly desirable, along with a valid driver's license and ability to obtain relevant state certifications in Washington. Success in this role demands strong technical acumen in reading blueprints, interpreting engineering drawings, and applying codes like AASHTO and WSDOT standards. Equally vital are soft skills like exceptional attention to detail, clear written and verbal communication for reporting findings, problem-solving to address on-site discrepancies, and interpersonal abilities to foster positive contractor relationships. Physical fitness for fieldwork in varying weather, time management for juggling multiple projects, and a safety-first mindset round out the competencies needed to excel. MacKay Sposito, a leading civil engineering firm founded in 1975, specializes in transportation, land development, and facilities projects with a commitment to innovation, integrity, and community impact.
