Job Overview: The City of Pearland, Texas, is seeking a skilled IT Support Specialist to join our Information Technology team. In this vital role, you will deliver hands-on technical support to city employees, maintain critical hardware and software systems, and contribute to the seamless operation of municipal services. As a key player in our department, you will troubleshoot issues, implement solutions, and help enhance the technological infrastructure that supports Pearland's growing community of over 125,000 residents. Key Responsibilities: Provide first-line technical support for end-users via phone, email, and in-person assistance, resolving hardware, software, and network problems efficiently. Install, configure, and maintain computers, printers, servers, and peripheral devices across city facilities. Perform routine system maintenance, updates, and backups to ensure data integrity and system reliability. Diagnose and troubleshoot network connectivity issues, including Wi-Fi, LAN, and VPN configurations. Document all support tickets, resolutions, and IT inventory using tools like ServiceNow or similar ticketing systems. Collaborate with other IT staff on projects such as system upgrades, cybersecurity enhancements, and deployment of new technologies. Respond to after-hours emergencies on a rotating on-call basis to minimize downtime for essential city operations. Assist in user training on software applications and best practices for IT security. Monitor system performance and generate reports on IT metrics to support departmental goals. Ensure compliance with city policies, data privacy regulations, and industry standards like NIST or ISO 27001. Required Qualifications: Associate's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field; Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum of 2-3 years of experience in IT support or help desk roles, ideally in a government or large organization setting. Valid driver's license and ability to travel between city facilities. Certifications such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate are highly desirable. Skills: Strong knowledge of Windows and macOS operating systems, Microsoft Office Suite, and common enterprise software. Proficiency in networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, and Active Directory. Excellent problem-solving abilities with a customer-service focus. Effective communication skills for interacting with non-technical staff. Familiarity with remote support tools like TeamViewer or Bomgar.
