Full Description
Job Overview: Carolina Health Specialists, a leading multi-specialty healthcare provider in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, is seeking a detail-oriented Insurance Verification Coordinator. This critical role supports our mission to deliver exceptional patient care by ensuring accurate insurance verification, eligibility checks, and prior authorizations, contributing directly to efficient revenue cycle management and smooth patient experiences in our state-of-the-art facilities.
Key Responsibilities: You will begin your day reviewing patient demographics and insurance details from scheduling systems to verify coverage, benefits, and deductibles using payer portals and phone outreach. Perform real-time eligibility checks, obtain necessary authorizations for procedures and treatments, and document all interactions meticulously in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Collaborate closely with clinical staff, billing teams, and front office personnel to resolve discrepancies, appeal denials, and update patient accounts. Handle high-volume inbound and outbound calls with insurance carriers, maintaining professionalism under pressure while adhering to HIPAA regulations and compliance standards. Monitor outstanding verifications, generate reports on verification status, and assist in training new staff on verification processes. Participate in process improvement initiatives to streamline workflows and reduce claim rejections.
Required Qualifications: A high school diploma or equivalent is required; an Associate's degree in healthcare administration, medical billing, or a related field is preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in insurance verification, medical billing, or a similar role within a healthcare setting. Strong knowledge of commercial payers (e.g., Blue Cross, UnitedHealthcare), Medicare, Medicaid, and workers' compensation guidelines. Proficiency in EHR systems such as Epic or Cerner, and insurance verification tools like Availity or Change Healthcare.
Skills: Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment. Outstanding communication abilities, both verbal and written, for interacting with patients, providers, and insurers. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data tracking and reporting. Problem-solving aptitude to navigate complex insurance scenarios and resolve issues efficiently. Commitment to accuracy, confidentiality, and patient-centered service, with the ability to multitask and meet daily productivity targets.
Company Info: Carolina Health Specialists is a trusted name in coastal South Carolina healthcare, offering comprehensive services across specialties like cardiology, orthopedics, gastroenterology, and more. With multiple locations in the Myrtle Beach area, we pride ourselves on a collaborative culture, cutting-edge technology, and a focus on work-life balance in a beautiful beachside community.
Benefits: We offer competitive compensation, comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) with company match, paid time off, holiday pay, and employee assistance programs. Enjoy perks like tuition reimbursement, professional development opportunities, and wellness initiatives tailored to our team's needs.
