Job Overview The Crime Scene Supervisor position with the City of Sunrise is a pivotal leadership role within the Police Department's Forensic Services Unit. Located in Sunrise, Florida, this position involves directing crime scene investigations, managing evidence processing, and ensuring the highest standards of forensic integrity to support criminal prosecutions. As a key member of the public safety team, the supervisor collaborates with detectives, patrol officers, and laboratory analysts to reconstruct crime scenes and deliver actionable intelligence. Key Responsibilities Supervise a team of crime scene technicians, assigning tasks and providing on-scene guidance during high-pressure investigations. Conduct thorough examinations of crime scenes, identifying, photographing, collecting, and preserving physical evidence such as fingerprints, DNA samples, trace materials, and ballistics. Maintain meticulous chain-of-custody protocols and prepare detailed reports, sketches, and photographic documentation for court presentations. Coordinate with external labs for advanced analysis, testify as an expert witness in legal proceedings, and train personnel on forensic best practices and emerging technologies. Respond to emergency calls, including homicides, sexual assaults, and burglaries, often requiring after-hours availability. Implement quality control measures to ensure evidence admissibility and participate in departmental policy development for forensic operations. Required Qualifications A bachelor's degree in forensic science, criminal justice, biology, chemistry, or a related field is required; a master's degree is preferred. Minimum of five years of progressive experience in crime scene investigation, including at least two years in a supervisory capacity. Must possess or be eligible for Florida certification as a Crime Scene Technician or Investigator through the International Association for Identification (IAI). Valid Florida driver's license and ability to obtain basic police officer certification if needed. Successful completion of background check, drug screening, and polygraph examination is mandatory.
