Job Overview R1 RCM is seeking a dedicated Customer Service Representative - Patient Registration to join our team in Elk Grove Village, IL. In this full-time role, you will be the first point of contact for patients, assisting with registration processes, insurance verification, and resolving inquiries to support efficient healthcare delivery. As a key member of our revenue cycle management team, you will contribute to improving patient experiences and operational accuracy in a dynamic hospital or clinic environment. Key Responsibilities Greet patients warmly via phone, email, or chat, and guide them through the registration process with empathy and efficiency. Verify patient demographics, insurance details, and eligibility using proprietary systems, ensuring all information is accurate and up-to-date. Address common concerns such as billing questions, appointment scheduling, and coverage issues, escalating complex cases to supervisors as needed. Accurately enter data into electronic health records (EHR) and registration software, maintaining compliance with HIPAA and other regulatory standards. Collaborate with clinical staff, billing teams, and insurance providers to resolve discrepancies and facilitate smooth patient onboarding. Provide exceptional customer service by actively listening, troubleshooting problems, and following up to ensure satisfaction. Meet or exceed performance metrics, including call volume targets, accuracy rates, and response times, while adapting to high-volume periods. Required Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in healthcare administration, business, or related field preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of customer service experience, ideally in healthcare, call centers, or patient-facing roles. Familiarity with medical terminology, insurance types (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial), and basic billing concepts. Proficiency in computer systems, including typing speed of at least 35 WPM, and experience with EHR or CRM software is a plus. Must be able to pass a background check and drug screening. Skills Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a patient-focused approach. Strong active listening and problem-solving abilities to handle diverse patient needs. Detail-oriented mindset for accurate data entry and error prevention. Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment while maintaining composure under pressure.
