BigCommerce, a leading e-commerce platform empowering thousands of merchants worldwide, is seeking an exceptional AI Lead Software Engineer to join our remote engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will architect and lead the development of advanced AI-driven features that enhance our platform's capabilities, delivering personalized shopping experiences, intelligent recommendations, and optimized operations for our clients. Key Responsibilities
Lead the design, development, and deployment of AI models and machine learning pipelines integrated into BigCommerce's core platform. Mentor and guide a team of engineers, fostering best practices in AI development, code reviews, and agile methodologies. Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and stakeholders to define AI roadmaps, prioritize features, and ensure seamless integration with existing systems. Optimize AI systems for scalability, performance, and reliability in high-traffic e-commerce environments. Stay ahead of emerging AI trends, experimenting with new tools like generative AI, LLMs, and computer vision to drive business value. Conduct rigorous testing, monitoring, and iteration of AI solutions to maintain top-tier accuracy and user satisfaction.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, AI, Machine Learning, or a related field. 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years focused on AI/ML projects. Proven track record leading engineering teams in fast-paced tech environments. Deep expertise in Python, TensorFlow, PyTorch, or similar frameworks. Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or Azure for AI workloads. Familiarity with e-commerce domains or large-scale distributed systems is a plus.
Skills
Proficiency in machine learning algorithms, deep learning, NLP, and recommendation systems. Expertise in data pipelines, ETL processes, and tools like Kafka, Spark, or Airflow. Strong software engineering skills, including microservices, Docker, Kubernetes, and CI/CD pipelines. Excellent problem-solving abilities, with a data-driven approach to decision-making. Outstanding communication skills for technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with MLOps practices, model versioning, and deployment at scale.
