Job Overview BECU, a leading not-for-profit credit union serving over 1 million members in Washington state, is seeking a Senior Software Developer Engineer in Test (SDET) with expertise in Accessibility Testing. In this critical role, you will lead efforts to embed accessibility into our software development lifecycle, ensuring all digital products and services are usable by everyone, including those with disabilities. As part of our innovative engineering team, you'll collaborate with developers, designers, and product managers to champion inclusive design practices aligned with WCAG 2.1/2.2 guidelines and ADA compliance. Key Responsibilities Develop and maintain automated accessibility testing frameworks using tools like Axe-core, Pa11y, and Selenium with accessibility plugins. Conduct comprehensive manual and automated audits on web and mobile applications, identifying barriers and providing actionable remediation recommendations. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate accessibility testing into CI/CD pipelines, ensuring early detection and resolution of issues. Create detailed accessibility reports, dashboards, and training materials to foster organization-wide awareness. Stay current with evolving standards from W3C, Section 508, and EN 301 549, mentoring junior team members on best practices. Participate in user research and usability testing with diverse user groups to validate inclusive experiences. Drive accessibility strategy, including tool evaluations and process improvements for scalable testing solutions. Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field, or equivalent experience. Minimum 5+ years in software testing, with at least 3 years focused on accessibility testing. Proven experience with automation frameworks (Cypress, Playwright, Appium) and scripting languages (JavaScript/TypeScript, Python, Java). Strong understanding of ARIA, HTML semantics, keyboard navigation, screen reader compatibility (JAWS, NVDA, VoiceOver), and color contrast requirements. Experience with Jira, Confluence, Git, and Agile methodologies. Certification such as CPACC, WAS, or similar is highly preferred. Skills Proficiency in accessibility evaluation tools (WAVE, Lighthouse, ARC, BrowserStack). Expertise in browser developer tools and debugging techniques for assistive technologies. Excellent problem-solving, communication, and collaboration skills. Ability to translate complex technical accessibility issues into business-friendly language. Familiarity with financial services software and compliance regulations is a plus. Passion for digital inclusion and user-centered design.
