Job Description
Centerpoint Medical Center seeks an experienced Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to deliver high-quality care in a fast-paced ER setting in Independence, MO. Join our team to manage acute cases and collaborate with multidisciplinary staff.
Full Description
Job Overview: Centerpoint Medical Center, a leading healthcare facility in Independence, Missouri, is seeking a skilled Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic Emergency Department team. In this critical role, you will provide urgent medical care to patients across all age groups, handling everything from minor injuries to life-threatening emergencies in a high-volume, Level II trauma center environment. As part of HCA Healthcare, we prioritize patient-centered care, innovation, and professional growth, offering you the chance to make a tangible impact in a supportive, state-of-the-art facility.
Key Responsibilities: You will conduct rapid patient assessments, diagnose acute illnesses and injuries, and develop effective treatment plans in a fast-paced setting. Responsibilities include ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as labs, imaging, and EKGs; performing procedures like suturing, splinting, intubation, and wound care; prescribing medications; and coordinating patient transfers or admissions as needed. You will collaborate closely with emergency physicians, nurses, specialists, and support staff to ensure seamless care delivery, maintain accurate electronic health records, and adhere to evidence-based protocols. Additionally, you will educate patients and families on discharge instructions, participate in quality improvement initiatives, and respond effectively to codes and resuscitations.
Required Qualifications: Candidates must hold a Master's degree or higher from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program, with current national certification (e.g., ANCC, AANP for NPs; NCCPA for PAs). Active Missouri state licensure as an NP or PA, along with DEA registration and BLS/ACLS certification, are required; PALS and ATLS certifications are preferred. A minimum of 2 years of experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or critical care is essential, with demonstrated ability to thrive in high-stress situations.
Skills: Exceptional clinical judgment, rapid decision-making, and strong communication skills are paramount. Proficiency in electronic medical records (EMR) systems, procedural competence, and the ability to multitask under pressure are key. You should possess empathy, cultural sensitivity, and a commitment to teamwork, with advanced knowledge of emergency pharmacology, triage protocols, and trauma management.
Company Info: Centerpoint Medical Center is a 407-bed facility renowned for comprehensive services including emergency care, cardiology, orthopedics, and women's health. Part of the trusted HCA Healthcare network, we serve the Kansas City metro area with cutting-edge technology and a patient-first approach, fostering a collaborative culture dedicated to excellence.
Benefits: We offer competitive compensation with sign-on bonuses, comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k) matching, generous PTO, malpractice coverage, and CME allowances. Enjoy wellness programs, tuition reimbursement, and employee assistance resources for a balanced life.
Growth Opportunities: Advance your career through leadership roles, specialized training, fellowship programs, and HCA's extensive professional development network. We support certifications, research involvement, and pathways to director-level positions in emergency services.
