Job Overview: Hartford HealthCare Medical Group Specialists is seeking a skilled Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant to join our dynamic Gastroenterology (GI) practice in Old Saybrook, with patient services extending to Haddam, CT. This role offers the opportunity to deliver high-quality, patient-centered care in a supportive, multidisciplinary team environment focused on digestive health, endoscopic procedures, and chronic GI condition management.
Key Responsibilities: Provide comprehensive primary and specialty care to patients with gastrointestinal disorders, including conducting patient assessments, diagnosing conditions, and developing treatment plans. Perform diagnostic procedures such as endoscopies, colonoscopies, and biopsies under physician supervision; prescribe medications, order and interpret lab tests, imaging, and other diagnostics; educate patients and families on disease processes, treatment options, and preventive care strategies. Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and support staff to coordinate care, participate in clinic rounds, and contribute to quality improvement initiatives. Maintain accurate electronic health records, ensure compliance with regulatory standards, and stay current with evidence-based GI practices through continuing education.
Required Qualifications: Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner (APRN) or Physician Assistant in Connecticut; Master's degree from an accredited NP or PA program; National certification (e.g., ANCC, AANP for NPs; NCCPA for PAs); Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience, preferably in gastroenterology or internal medicine. Valid DEA registration and BLS/ACLS certification required; experience with electronic medical records (EMR) systems preferred.
Skills: Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic skills specific to GI conditions; proficiency in endoscopic procedures and interventional techniques; excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for patient education and team collaboration; attention to detail in documentation and patient safety protocols; adaptability to fast-paced clinical settings with ability to manage complex cases independently.
