Job Overview: Centerpoint Medical Center in Lenexa, Kansas, is seeking a skilled Emergency Medicine Nurse Practitioner (NP) or Physician Assistant (PA) to join our dynamic emergency department team. In this critical role, you will provide high-quality, timely care to patients experiencing acute illnesses, injuries, and life-threatening conditions in a high-volume, Level II trauma center environment. As a key member of our multidisciplinary team, you will work alongside physicians, nurses, and support staff to stabilize patients, make rapid assessments, and coordinate seamless transitions to appropriate care levels.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct thorough patient assessments, including history taking, physical exams, and diagnostic testing interpretation in fast-paced emergency settings. Order and interpret labs, imaging, and other diagnostics; perform procedures such as suturing, splinting, intubations, and wound care. Develop and execute treatment plans, prescribe medications, and provide patient education on discharge instructions. Collaborate with ED physicians, specialists, and ancillary staff to ensure efficient patient flow and high standards of care. Document all encounters accurately in electronic health records, adhere to evidence-based protocols, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. Manage high-acuity cases like trauma, cardiac events, strokes, and pediatric emergencies while maintaining composure under pressure.
Required Qualifications: Valid Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in Kansas; current certification as an Acute Care NP (ACNP) or Emergency Medicine PA preferred. Minimum of 2 years of experience in emergency medicine, urgent care, or critical care settings. Board certification through ANCC, AANP, NCCPA, or equivalent. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications required; ATLS certification a plus. DEA registration and ability to work independently within scope of practice.
Skills: Exceptional clinical judgment and decision-making in high-stress situations. Proficiency in emergency procedures, triage, and rapid assessment. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for patient interactions and team collaboration. Ability to multitask, prioritize, and adapt to unpredictable workflows. Familiarity with EHR systems like Epic and knowledge of current emergency medicine guidelines.
