Job Overview: UW Health is seeking a qualified Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant to join our Outpatient Medical Oncology team specializing in thoracic, head, and neck cancers. This advanced practice provider role supports comprehensive patient care in a leading academic medical center located in Madison, Wisconsin. The position offers an opportunity to work within a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering evidence-based oncology treatment and improving patient outcomes.
Key Responsibilities: Conduct comprehensive patient assessments, obtain medical histories, and perform physical examinations specific to oncology needs. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans in collaboration with attending oncologists and the care team. Order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and manage symptoms related to cancer and its treatments. Provide patient education on disease processes, treatment options, and supportive care strategies. Coordinate referrals to ancillary services and facilitate seamless transitions of care. Document clinical encounters accurately in the electronic health record and participate in quality improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications: Current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant in the state of Wisconsin, along with national certification in the respective discipline. A minimum of two years of clinical experience in oncology, internal medicine, or a related specialty is preferred. Strong knowledge of oncology treatment modalities, chemotherapy protocols, and symptom management is essential.
