Job Overview Wesley Medical Center, a leading healthcare provider in Wichita, Kansas, is seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) for our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). In this critical role, you will provide specialized care to premature and critically ill newborns, working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team to ensure the best possible outcomes for our tiniest patients and their families. As a Level III NICU facility, we handle complex cases including respiratory distress, surgical neonates, and those requiring advanced monitoring, offering you the chance to make a profound impact in a fast-paced, rewarding environment. Key Responsibilities Your primary duties will include assessing and monitoring neonatal vital signs, administering medications and treatments as prescribed, and managing life-support equipment such as ventilators and incubators. You will develop and implement individualized care plans, educate parents on newborn care and feeding techniques, and respond swiftly to emergencies while maintaining meticulous documentation in electronic health records. Collaboration with neonatologists, respiratory therapists, and social workers is essential, as is participating in family-centered rounds and discharge planning to support smooth transitions home. Required Qualifications Candidates must hold a current Registered Nurse license in the state of Kansas, with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) strongly preferred. A minimum of 1-2 years of NICU or pediatric nursing experience is required, along with Basic Life Support (BLS) and Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certifications. New graduates with strong pediatric rotations may be considered, but prior acute care experience is highly advantageous. Skills Exceptional clinical skills in neonatal assessment, IV therapy, and pain management are crucial, complemented by strong communication abilities to interact effectively with families under stress. Proficiency in electronic medical records systems, attention to detail, and the capacity to thrive in high-pressure situations with emotional resilience are key.
