Job Overview
Venmo, a leading digital payments platform owned by PayPal, is seeking a Staff Software Engineer - Cloud Infrastructure and DevOps to join our engineering team in California. As a key player in our cloud infrastructure group, you will architect, build, and optimize the scalable, resilient systems that support Venmo's high-volume transaction processing for millions of users. Key Responsibilities
Design and implement cloud-native infrastructure using AWS, GCP, or Azure services to support microservices architectures and high-availability systems. Lead the development of CI/CD pipelines with tools like Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or Terraform to enable rapid, reliable deployments. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize infrastructure costs, monitor performance using Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack, and troubleshoot production issues. Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive best practices in infrastructure as code (IaC), containerization with Docker and Kubernetes, and security implementations. Participate in on-call rotations to maintain 99.99% uptime for payment processing services.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field. 8+ years of experience in software engineering with a focus on cloud infrastructure and DevOps. Proven track record in building and scaling distributed systems in production environments. Strong programming skills in Python, Go, or Java. Experience with public cloud platforms and orchestration tools.
Skills
Expertise in Kubernetes, Docker, and Helm for container management. Proficiency in IaC tools like Terraform, CloudFormation, or Ansible. Deep knowledge of monitoring, logging, and observability tools such as Datadog, New Relic, or Splunk. Familiarity with networking, VPCs, load balancers, and security groups. Strong problem-solving abilities, with experience in agile methodologies and version control with Git. Excellent communication skills for collaborating with product, security, and operations teams.
