Job Description
Ad Hoc seeks a Staff Software Engineer specializing in Full Stack development and SRE for a remote full-time role. Drive scalable systems, optimize infrastructure, and collaborate on innovative engineering projects anywhere in the world.
Full Description
Job Overview
Ad Hoc is looking for an experienced Staff Software Engineer with expertise in Full Stack development and Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) to join our remote team. In this senior-level role, you will architect, build, and maintain high-availability systems that power mission-critical applications, ensuring seamless performance and scalability in a dynamic, cloud-native environment. As a key contributor to our engineering organization, you'll bridge development and operations, fostering reliability while innovating on cutting-edge technologies.
Key Responsibilities
Design and implement robust full stack applications using modern frameworks and languages, including frontend technologies like React or Vue.js and backend services in Node.js, Python, or Java. Develop and maintain infrastructure as code with tools like Terraform, Ansible, and Kubernetes to automate deployments and manage cloud resources on AWS, Azure, or GCP. Lead SRE practices by monitoring system health, implementing observability with Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack, and establishing SLAs/SLOs for uptime and performance. Collaborate with cross-functional teams to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and optimize CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or GitLab CI. Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and drive technical initiatives to improve system resilience and developer productivity. Participate in on-call rotations to ensure 24/7 reliability while contributing to open-source projects and internal tools.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, or equivalent professional experience. 8+ years of software engineering experience, with at least 4 years in full stack development and 3+ years in SRE or DevOps roles. Proven track record of deploying and operating production systems at scale. Strong proficiency in containerization (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes). Experience with relational (PostgreSQL, MySQL) and NoSQL (MongoDB, DynamoDB) databases.
Skills
Expertise in cloud platforms (AWS preferred) and microservices architecture. Proficiency in scripting languages like Python or Go for automation. Deep knowledge of networking, security best practices, and performance tuning. Familiarity with agile methodologies and version control (Git). Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to thrive in a fast-paced, remote environment. Strong communication skills for technical discussions and documentation.
