Full Description

Shockwave Medical is looking for a talented R&D Electrical Engineer I to join our innovative team in Santa Clara, California. In this role, you will contribute to the development of next-generation medical devices that utilize advanced shockwave technology to treat cardiovascular conditions. You will work alongside experienced engineers and cross-functional teams to design, prototype, and test electrical systems that meet rigorous medical device standards. Your contributions will directly impact patient outcomes by helping create breakthrough solutions for treating calcified arterial disease. Key responsibilities include designing analog and digital circuits for medical device applications, developing embedded firmware for microcontroller-based systems, conducting electrical testing and validation of prototypes, collaborating with mechanical engineers on integrated device designs, and documenting design specifications and test results according to regulatory requirements. You will participate in design reviews, troubleshoot electrical issues during development phases, support the transition of designs from prototype to manufacturing, and ensure all electrical systems comply with medical device safety standards including IEC 60601. Additional duties involve evaluating new components and technologies, maintaining laboratory equipment, and contributing to risk management activities throughout the product development lifecycle. Required qualifications include a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field, foundational knowledge of circuit design principles, experience with schematic capture and PCB layout tools, and familiarity with embedded systems programming. Candidates should have strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment. Preferred qualifications include internship experience in medical devices or similar regulated industries, knowledge of signal processing techniques, and understanding of FDA regulations and ISO 13485 quality management systems. Essential skills for this position include proficiency in electrical design software such as Altium or OrCAD, experience with oscilloscopes and other test equipment, programming knowledge in C or C++, and understanding of electromagnetic compatibility principles. Candidates should demonstrate attention to detail, ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, and commitment to continuous learning in a fast-paced environment. Shockwave Medical is a pioneer in developing intravascular lithotripsy technology that transforms the treatment of calcified cardiovascular disease. Our company culture emphasizes innovation, collaboration, and dedication to improving patient lives through groundbreaking medical technology. We offer competitive compensation packages including health benefits, retirement plans, stock options, and professional development opportunities. Employees benefit from a comprehensive wellness program and flexible work arrangements. Growth opportunities at Shockwave Medical include mentorship programs, technical training courses, and clear career progression paths from entry-level engineer to senior engineering roles. Team members can expand their expertise through cross-functional projects, attend industry conferences, and pursue advanced certifications.
