Job Overview Ascension, a leading non-profit and Catholic health system, is seeking a compassionate and skilled Registered Nurse (RN) for our Medical Surgical unit at Ascension Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village, Illinois. In this critical role, you will deliver high-quality, patient-centered care to adults recovering from surgery, managing acute and chronic conditions across a variety of medical-surgical cases. Key Responsibilities Assess patient conditions upon admission and throughout their stay, developing and implementing individualized care plans in collaboration with physicians, specialists, and interdisciplinary teams. Administer medications, IV therapies, wound care, and treatments while monitoring vital signs and responding swiftly to changes in patient status. Educate patients and families on post-discharge care, disease management, and preventive health strategies to promote recovery and reduce readmissions. Maintain accurate electronic health records (EHR), ensure compliance with infection control protocols, and participate in quality improvement initiatives. During night shifts or high-acuity periods, prioritize tasks, delegate to support staff, and advocate for patient safety and rights. Required Qualifications Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Illinois without restrictions. Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN preferred) from an accredited program. Minimum of 1-2 years of clinical experience in medical-surgical nursing or a related acute care setting. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification; Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred. Ability to pass a background check, drug screening, and meet Ascension's health and immunization requirements. Skills Exceptional clinical assessment and critical thinking skills to identify subtle changes in patient conditions. Strong communication and interpersonal abilities for building trust with diverse patient populations and collaborating effectively in fast-paced team environments. Proficiency in EHR systems such as Epic, along with technical skills in telemetry monitoring, IV insertion, and pain management. Emotional resilience, empathy, and adaptability to handle high-stress situations while maintaining a calm, professional demeanor.
