Job Overview
Recology, a leader in sustainable waste management and recycling services, is seeking a dedicated Customer Service Representative 1 to join our team in California. In this essential full-time position, you will serve as the primary point of contact for our valued customers, providing top-tier support for billing, service scheduling, and recycling inquiries while contributing to our mission of environmental stewardship and community service.
Key Responsibilities
Respond promptly to customer inquiries via phone, email, and online portals, offering accurate information on waste collection schedules, pricing, and service options. Resolve complaints and service issues efficiently, escalating complex matters to appropriate teams while maintaining a positive and professional demeanor. Process service requests, including new account setups, route changes, and billing adjustments, ensuring all records are updated accurately in our CRM system. Educate customers on recycling best practices, sustainability programs, and Recology's eco-friendly initiatives to promote compliance and reduce contamination. Collaborate with operations teams to coordinate special pickups, report service disruptions, and improve overall customer experience. Track and report customer feedback to identify trends and support continuous service improvements.
Required Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required; associate's degree in business, communications, or related field preferred. Minimum of 1-2 years of customer service experience, ideally in utilities, waste management, or high-volume call center environments. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and experience with customer relationship management (CRM) software such as Salesforce or similar systems. Valid California driver's license and ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a customer-focused mindset. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle high-pressure situations calmly. Active listening and empathy to build rapport and de-escalate conflicts. Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills for managing multiple tasks and priorities.
