Job Overview
Allina Health, a leading nonprofit healthcare system in Minnesota, is seeking a dedicated Physician Assistant (PA) or Nurse Practitioner (NP) to join our Breast Oncology and Medical Oncology team at our Buffalo, MN location. This full-time role offers the opportunity to deliver specialized care to oncology patients, focusing on breast cancer and broader medical oncology needs. Work in a supportive environment with multidisciplinary teams including oncologists, surgeons, nurses, and support staff to improve patient outcomes in a community hospital setting.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive patient care including conducting patient assessments, ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests such as imaging and labs, developing treatment plans, and prescribing medications. Perform procedures like biopsies, chemotherapy administration oversight, and symptom management. Educate patients and families on treatment options, side effects, and survivorship care. Collaborate with physicians for consultations, follow-ups, and care coordination. Document all patient interactions accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems. Participate in tumor boards, quality improvement initiatives, and clinical research trials as needed. Ensure compliance with oncology protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Required Qualifications
Master's degree from an accredited PA or NP program. Current certification as a Physician Assistant (NCCPA) or Nurse Practitioner (ANCC/AANP). Active Minnesota state licensure as a PA or NP, with prescriptive authority. National certification in oncology preferred (e.g., AOCNP or similar). Minimum of 2 years of experience in oncology, hematology, or related field; new grads with strong rotations considered. BLS and ACLS certification required.
Skills
Excellent clinical judgment and decision-making in complex oncology cases. Strong communication skills for patient education and interdisciplinary teamwork. Proficiency in EHR systems like Epic. Ability to manage high-stress situations with empathy and professionalism. Knowledge of current oncology guidelines, chemotherapy regimens, and survivorship planning. Research and data analysis skills for participation in clinical trials.
