The role involves direct patient management in collaboration with oncologists and the multidisciplinary care team.
Key Responsibilities
Provide comprehensive clinical assessment, diagnosis, and treatment planning for patients with various oncologic conditions. Conduct patient examinations, review medical histories, and order appropriate diagnostic testing including laboratory work and imaging studies. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in coordination with attending physicians. Manage ongoing patient care including medication management, symptom control, and supportive care measures. Document all clinical encounters accurately in the electronic medical record system. Participate in tumor boards and multidisciplinary conferences to optimize patient outcomes. Educate patients and families regarding disease processes, treatment options, and supportive care resources. Coordinate referrals to specialty services and community resources as needed. Maintain current knowledge of oncology treatment protocols and emerging therapies through continuing education.
Required Qualifications
Active and unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in the state of South Dakota. Master's degree from an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Current certification from a recognized national certifying body appropriate to the specialty. Minimum of two years clinical experience in oncology, internal medicine, or related specialty preferred. Current BLS and ACLS certifications required.
Skills
Strong clinical assessment and diagnostic reasoning abilities. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective patient and team interactions. Proficiency with electronic health record systems and clinical documentation. Ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary healthcare team.
