Job Overview: Merck & Co., Inc., a global leader in healthcare, is seeking a strategic and visionary Director of US Marketing for Ophthalmology. This pivotal role involves spearheading the development and execution of comprehensive marketing strategies for our innovative ophthalmology portfolio, aimed at addressing unmet needs in eye care. Reporting to the Head of US Marketing, you will drive commercial success by leveraging market insights, fostering key stakeholder relationships, and ensuring alignment with global objectives in a fast-paced, patient-centric organization.
Key Responsibilities: Lead the creation of integrated marketing plans, including brand positioning, promotional campaigns, and digital initiatives tailored to US ophthalmologists, optometrists, and patients. Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as sales, medical affairs, market access, and R&D to optimize product launches, lifecycle management, and competitive positioning. Analyze market trends, customer insights, and performance metrics using advanced analytics to inform data-driven decisions and achieve revenue targets. Represent the ophthalmology franchise externally through key opinion leader engagements, industry conferences, and payer negotiations. Oversee budget management, resource allocation, and compliance with FDA regulations, promotional guidelines, and Merck's high standards of integrity.
Required Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Marketing, Business, Life Sciences, or related field; MBA or advanced degree strongly preferred. Minimum 10+ years of progressive marketing experience in pharmaceuticals, with at least 5 years in ophthalmology or specialty therapeutics. Proven track record of leading successful US product launches and achieving commercial objectives in a competitive market.
Skills: Exceptional leadership and team-building abilities to inspire high-performing marketing teams. Strong strategic thinking, analytical prowess, and proficiency in tools like Salesforce, IQVIA data platforms, and marketing automation software. Outstanding communication and presentation skills for influencing senior stakeholders and external partners. Deep knowledge of US healthcare landscape, including reimbursement dynamics, HCP engagement, and digital health trends. Ability to thrive in ambiguity, innovate boldly, and champion diversity, equity, and inclusion.
