In this role, you will perform comprehensive disability examinations for veterans and other individuals through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and related programs. Our exams are non-treatment oriented, focusing on objective assessments to support benefit determinations. This position offers flexible scheduling, allowing you to balance this role with other professional commitments while contributing to meaningful healthcare services in your community.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include conducting thorough physical examinations, reviewing patients' medical histories, and documenting findings accurately in our electronic health record system. You will perform focused assessments on various body systems, such as musculoskeletal, neurological, and cardiovascular, tailored to specific disability claims. Responsibilities also encompass interpreting diagnostic results, providing clear verbal summaries to patients, and ensuring all reports are completed promptly and compliantly with VA guidelines. Collaboration with our clinical operations team is essential to maintain high standards of care and efficiency.
Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a valid, unrestricted Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant license in Nebraska. A Master's degree from an accredited NP or PA program is required, along with national certification (e.g., ANCC, AANP for NPs; NCCPA for PAs). At least one year of clinical experience in primary care, occupational medicine, or a related field is preferred. Current DEA registration and BLS certification are mandatory. Experience with electronic medical records and familiarity with VA protocols is highly desirable.
Skills
Successful candidates demonstrate exceptional clinical assessment skills, strong attention to detail, and proficiency in medical documentation. Excellent communication abilities are crucial for patient interactions and report writing. You should be comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment, with solid time management and organizational skills. Knowledge of disability evaluation processes and empathy for diverse patient populations will set you apart.
