Full Description
Job Overview
Charlie Mike Recruiting is excited to partner with a leading construction firm in Elgin, Illinois, to find a skilled Construction Sales Estimator. This pivotal role involves analyzing project specifications, preparing competitive bids, and collaborating with sales teams to secure lucrative contracts. As a key player in our client's growth strategy, you will bridge technical expertise with sales acumen to deliver precise estimates that win projects and build lasting client relationships. If you thrive in a dynamic environment where accuracy meets opportunity, this position offers a chance to make a tangible impact on multimillion-dollar construction initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Your primary duties will include reviewing blueprints, specifications, and site conditions to develop detailed cost estimates for materials, labor, equipment, and overhead. You will solicit and evaluate subcontractor quotes, perform risk assessments, and present persuasive proposals to clients and internal stakeholders. Collaborating closely with project managers, architects, and sales teams, you will negotiate contract terms, track bid results, and refine estimating processes to improve win rates. Additionally, you will maintain a database of historical data for accurate forecasting, conduct market research on pricing trends, and support sales efforts through value engineering recommendations to optimize project profitability.
Required Qualifications
A bachelor's degree in construction management, civil engineering, or a related field is preferred, along with at least 5 years of hands-on experience in construction estimating and sales. Proven track record in securing bids for commercial, residential, or infrastructure projects is essential. Proficiency in industry-standard software such as Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or ProEst is required, as is familiarity with construction bidding platforms like iSqFt or Dodge Data.
Skills
Exceptional mathematical and analytical skills are crucial for precise quantity takeoffs and cost modeling. Strong communication and negotiation abilities will help you articulate value propositions and close deals effectively. Attention to detail, time management, and problem-solving prowess ensure estimates are both competitive and realistic. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for complex spreadsheets, is mandatory. Knowledge of local building codes, union rates, and sustainable construction practices provides a competitive edge.
